This is a very quirky book. It has the most colorful group of characters of any Koontz story (Life Expectancy coming in a close second); we have Psychotics, Druggies, Mutants, Extraordinary kids, Aliens, Gumshoes, Identical Twins who are former Vegas stars trained in weaponry and martial arts, People who have been shot in the head and now remember their life as movie stars in big motion pictures, and of course, dogs. This is a great novel as long as you don’t take it too seriously. The story has a lot of tragedy written into it, but there is always lightheartedness and humor to keep it from being too grim.

I don’t want to go into each of the characters because they unfold so well throughout the story. If I picked each one apart you would not have the pleasure of discovering who is whom on your own. I like all of the characters though, they each feed the story so well. This really is a good book, it is a little out there and has a bit of a sci-fi flare to it. It is exciting from beginning to end with new stories unfolding throughout the tale. If you are looking for a reality story done by Koontz, this will NOT be the book for you. But if you are looking for a fun, well-written book that will keep you reading then I suggest this one.

This is an excellent story! Even though the story was only written a few years ago, I am certain that this will always be a Koontz classic. This was the first of what has been deemed ‘The Chris Snow Series.’ It is called this because of the main character, Chris Snow. Chris must keep to the night because he has a disease called XP for short (I don’t feel like typing the whole disease name), and ultraviolet lights physically hurt him. The two other main characters are his best friend Bobby, a VERY laid back surfer, and his lady, Sasha. These two are great characters and I really couldn’t get enough of them, so their role seemed small. No great Koontz book is complete without a wonderful dog, and this one doesn’t disappoint. Orson is Chris’ dog who has a few quirks himself. These characters flow so well together and play off of each other that you feel that you know them, and you care for them.

There are side characters of course, but one in particular is just wonderful. I would like to see an entire novel based off of the life of Roosevelt Frost. He is an ex-football player turned pet communicator. The section of the story with him in it is one of the most enjoyable excerpts from any book I have read. Frost plays a very small part of the story, but I could not get enough.

From cover to cover this is a wonderful novel. There is a plentiful amount of action and drama that keeps you wanting more. Unlike most Koontz books, you actually get more with this one. Seize the Night is the next is the series. You do not HAVE to read this series in order, but I do suggest it, more to get to know the characters than anything else. I would suggest this to anyone, Koontz fan or not.

This is a phenomenal book! It is the second installment of the Christopher Snow series and is the next chapter in Snow’s journal. This story parallels the first book, but it is a completely different story. It explores the ‘Mystery Train’ storyline from the first book. The same characters are back with a few new ones and a larger part for others (who previously had small roles).

The story starts with some children who end up missing and Chris thinks that Wyvern has something to do with it. While looking into these abductions, the backround of ‘Mystery Train’ starts to unfold.  I think that this novel is a lot more intense than Fear Nothing, but it starts slower. Once you get into it though, you can’t put it down. Some parts are hard to read, not because they are poorly written, but because they are SO well written and graphic it makes you want to stop reading.

Re-reading this helped me to see why it has taken Koontz so long to release Ride the Storm (which is supposed to be the next in the Christopher Snow series). It’s going to be very hard to live up to Seize the Night and I know Koontz will not put out a follow-up book unless he is convinced that it will be as good as or better than the previous one. With that noted, I truly hope that it will be released as I cannot get enough of these books!
