This is an all encompassing review. These are the first short stories I have read by DK. I do prefer his novels simply because there is more to them. I found myself wanting more from each story. Trapped was one of my favorites from this book. I read in his note that he had kind of based it off of Watchers when it came to the theme. He developed the characters very well for a story so short. I did not care for Kittens, probably because I am a cat lover and the story was almost too short to be justified. Ollie's Hands was another good one, a very unique story where you felt sorry for the main character. I will not go through each story so I can keep this brief, but overall, I found it enjoyable.

A word about the publisher:

My copy was published by Time Warner. I did not care for this publisher. I found way too many misprints. The ink was very blotchy, so that in some parts I couldn't even read the text. The ink came off on may hands as I read it. I'm glad I haven't found many of his books published by them.

As most already know this is my favorite DK book. The moment I finished this book I immediately started to re-read it, it was THAT good. It actually disturbed me for awhile after I read it. Which has never happened to me before. I liked how he went into depth about the phobias and feelings that were happening throughout the book. I was actually paranoid to answer the phone. I have never read a book so intently as this. I was crying, jumping up and down and yelling at the book while I was reading. The realness factor of the book was far better than any of his other books (not saying his other ones couldn't happen). I was always leery of hypnosis in the past, after reading this book I know it is completely out of question. I recommend this book to everyone. A warning, if you do have a paranoid nature then beware!

If you are tired of the paranormal side of Koontz, this is a great book for you. I thought this was an excellent book. It keeps you guessing through the whole book (or at least it did me). It does not have a large amount of characters, which lets you get to know them a lot more. I must admit that I was a bit lost when he was referring to the mountain climbing gear. I have never climbed before and some of the terminology did confuse me a tad. It was not so bad that it ruined the book for me. I did really enjoy this book, it had a Die Hard type of flare to it.
