I really liked this book. At first, I thought it had kind of a Stand By Me kind of theme. I found quickly that it was not the same! It was a very quick read for me-I read it in about 4 hours. I really liked the characters. There is not much I can go into without giving the entire book away. I will say this, this is one of those stories where you find yourself pitying the bad guy as well as hating him. This is definitely a "Classic Koontz" novel.

Any book that delves into the subconscious gets to me, because you really never know. I was shocked that this book did not take place in CA, but it was a nice change. I thought the book was going to be taking a national standpoint. But focusing it on a small town as a test sight was a good touch. I would like to see a sequel to this book and maybe get it on a larger scale. It definitely got me looking at adds and got me wondering how many topics are rushing through my subconscious after watching television. I was NOT expecting a certain character to get killed off-I won’t say which, but hopefully you will figure out whom I meant after you read it. There were a lot of things in this book that didn't strike me as typical Koontz. For those of you who do not enjoy his repetition, this may be the book for you.

This was a very quick moving story. I enjoy when he ropes you in right from the beginning. I was surprised by the religious twist to the book. I was not expecting it and I think it fed into the story really well. He did leave the ending open for a sequel as he does sometimes. I have not heard anything about one though-before I start a rumor. I did like the different characters in the story. I think he had excellent development. He did not go to far, and he did not go into a lot of detail about everyone, which would have been too much. Koontz is definitely not afraid to kill characters in this book. Sometimes it’s easy to figure out who will die because of who gets the least description in books. Don't be fooled by whom he describes though, it is very hard to guess who lives and dies. His afterword to the book was good, as usual. I love to hear his opinion of what he writes.
